Science & Engineering Challenge

For over 15 years, The Rotary Club of Bendigo South has conducted the Science and Engineering Challenge competition for Central Victoria. This event takes place in partnership with Newcastle University.

The challenge is aimed at providing an opportunity for Year 10 students to obtain an insight into science and engineering principles with the view of assisting students to undertake these subjects in their senior school and university studies.  The object is to address the shortage of science and engineering skills in Regional Victoria.

Each year around 250 students take part in the event from 8 local and regional schools.  The event is conducted in partnership with industry, Bendigo area Rotary Clubs, Local Government and La Trobe University.  The cost of a Regional event is around $12,000 and the cost of the National Final (conducted twice in Bendigo) is about $20,000.  It is only through these partnerships that projects of this magnitude are possible.
