About our Club
The club chartered in 1959 is an evening club meeting for dinner most weeks on a Thursday night. These meetings bring together several people reflective of a cross section of the Bendigo community consisting of working men and women along with several long serving retirees. Club has been pro- active in encouraging women and first generation and new arrivals to Australia to become Rotary members by joining our club.
In recent years membership numbers have fluctuated between 30 and 40. The club, while meeting together in an informal and relaxed atmosphere, prides itself on thorough planning and accountability and this is evident in all the projects it undertakes. Three-year plans with yearly aims and objectives have been an integral part of club operations for the past 10 years and quarterly reports are shared and reviewed with all members.
Much of the club’s fund raising is the result of an ongoing BBQ catering operation which sees it serving many repeat clients that have been cultivated in recent times due to good planning and the hard work and the professionalism of our members who regularly volunteer. Funds generated from this work enable the club to support many local and international projects.
This club has always encouraged opportunities for its membership to its share talents and experience with members from other clubs working on combined projects.
Some recognized projects currently undertaken are-
- Extensive Youth Scholarship awards at local Secondary Schools, TAFE and Latrobe University
- Annual Science and Engineering Challenge for years 9 & 10
- Internationally focused projects in Timor Leste, Ethiopia and Cambodia
- Annual Christmas Trailer Raffle in partnership with The Rotary Club of Eaglehawk
- Annual Mandurang Christmas Market in partnership with the Rotary Club of Bendigo.
