Teaching in Timor
July 17 2016Throughout the school holidays in Term Two, Bendigo South Rotarians with a teaching background headed off to our near neighbours to undertake some professional development of East Timorese school teachers.
Working mainly in the Maubisse area, Tony Plant, Jim Rinaldi and Glenn Madden shared the knowledge they’ve accumulated from years of teaching, with locals who hope to transform the education system in the developing country.
Some of the work they did was to teach the teachers and students ways to learn physical education and games. The travellers also spent some time in the capital of Dili, before returnng home to get back into school work when the term went back.
Being involved in Rotary allows for members to undertake several fulfilling opportunities overseas such as this. Become a member and you too can make a difference overseas as well as locally, putting your skills and talents to good use for humanity.
