Politicians and farewells – a week at Bendigo South

July 14 2014

This week at the Rotary Club of Bendigo South, we had one of our largest meetings ever to be held in the Sterling Room at the Foundry Hotel.

With 45 people were in attendance, extra tables had to be brought in to accommodate our guests. The reason for our large attendance was due to the fact that we had two exceptional guest speakers for the night.

Firstly we heard from Anna Kollar, a Hungarian youth exchange student, who is due to return home any day now. Anna shared with us her thoughts and experiences from throughout her year in Australia, as well as showing us a slideshow of her favourite photos from throughout the year. Supporting Anna on the night were her various host family members, who were fortunate to get to know Anna throughout the last twelve months.

After some lovely dinner, we then heard from local Federal MP for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters, who spoke to club members and guests about her first 12 months in the job. Miss Chesters also touched on living away in Canberra for substantial lengths of time, as well as her struggle to get an
office chair which suited her height.

Members and guests fielded Miss Chesters with very good questions, which were adequately answered via a Q&A format.

Members of the Rotary Club of Bendigo Next Generation also joined us on the night, to help send Anna off and wish her all the best for the future.

See you next week at Bendigo South Rotary, when board members present their plan for the club for the next 12 months.
